Where to buy the RTX 4060

Most stores haven’t started unlocking their listings for the RTX 4060 just yet, but Best Buy has a couple already up. While you won’t find any until the stores do begin to upload the GPU onto the sites, we’ve found exactly where they’re going to be.

Current pricing from Best Buy does seem to indicate that the card will be exceeding its MSRP when it comes to overclocked cards. However, it’s not as ridiculous when it came to the RTX 4070.

RTX 4060 release date

The Nvidia 4060 is confirmed to release on June 29. While Nvidia initially hinted that the GPU will launch in July, leaks suggested that it might be released on June 29. As it turns out, the leaker Zed Wang, who has an incredibly reliable track record, was indeed correct.

That said, the RTX 4060 won’t come alone. Its powerful sibling will accompany it – a 16GB variant of the RTX 4060 Ti is poised for release in July.  It looks like Nvidia has adopted the staggered release approach, at least for its budget GPUs, leaving enough time and space before the next launch. However, their performance still remains in question.

The RTX 4060 Ti will be released beforehand, but for those wanting to save $100, you might want to wait for this entry-level GPU. The RTX 4060 is also confirmed to be getting a Founders Edition. Its outer shell might bear some resemblance to the RTX 4060 Ti’s FE design.

The RTX 4060 is confirmed to launch with an MSRP of $299. This marks a $30 decrease on the previous-generation RTX 3060, which is incredibly welcome news for those who held off on upgrading their GPU last generation.

The lower end of the RTX 40-series has matched its previous-generation counterparts. But, the same cannot be said of their high-end counterparts. This makes for a good value mid-range GPU, but it’s not without its limitations to reach that price point. It also leaves an opportunity for AMD to strike back with their own mid-range GPU, which will likely undercut Nvidia’s pricing with similar rasterization performance.

RTX 4060 performance speculation

The main question on everyone’s lips will be just how well the RTX 4060 will perform when compared to previous-generation cards like the RTX 3070, which can now be had at bargain-bin prices if you’re looking to purchase a used GPU.

Considering the incredibly modest specs of the RTX 4060, we expect it to just about match the popular Ampere GPU.

However, even if the GPU is less powerful than we originally thought, it could still be a great performer at 1080p, and for esports titles such as Valorant and Overwatch 2.

The speficiations of the RTX 4060 have finally been officially confirmed by Nvidia, the GPU will have a base clock of 1.83GHz and be able to boost up to 2.46GHz, all the while sipping power at 115W. The GPU will also feature a 128-bit bus.

The RTX 4060 is likely to be based on the AD107 chip in Nvidia’s Lovelace lineup. Previously, we heard numerous leaks surrounding the graphics card. Namely, it will actually have fewer CUDA cores than the vanilla RTX 3060. Though, a die-shrink and architecture switch will most likely mean that the card will indeed be faster than the 3060 itself.

Of note is that Nvidia’s mid-range offering will likely be using the standard GDDR6, rather than the faster “X” variant. This could have gone some way to mitigate possible issues when playing titles with demanding VRAM requirements like Forspoken and Hogwarts Legacy.

It’s unlikely that a higher VRAM variant of the GPU will be released any time soon, but we would expect that towards the end of the GPUs lifespan Nvidia could potentially cram in more VRAM in order to make it more competitive.

Will the RTX 4060 be powerful?

We’re expecting that the RTX 4060 will be around the same levels of performance as an RTX 3070, or RTX 2080 Ti. While this will boast great performance at 1080p and 1440p, its VRAM limitations may restrict the GPU’s performance at 4K. However, thanks to having access to tech like DLSS 3, the RTX 4060 could also boost its pure rasterization performance significantly thanks to frame-generation techniques.
